"If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell allthat thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me." - Matt. 19:21
"Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back." - Luke 6:30
Most know the importance of belief, and following Elohim's laws, but the act of giving is often overlooked. Yeshua reminds in the above passages just how important giving is. It leads to perfection, and it's so important that we aren't to even ask for our possessions back if they're stolen from us. This is hard for us to understand, how we're not to ask for our stolen possessions back. But it also reveals just how insignificant things if this world are compared to those of the kingdom of heaven. All the earthly riches and luxuries are nothing compared to what awaits us.
"The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth." - Psalm 37:21
This selfless act of kindness is also a trait which separates us from the wicked and the godless.
"If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing." - 1 Cor. 13:3
Just as faith without works is dead, giving without love is done in vain. Elohim doesn't want us to merely go through the motions because we feel we need to in order to be saved, our hearts must be in it.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full." - Matt. 6:2
When we give to others, just as when we do other good works, we're not to boast about it, or it's done in vain. Just as Matthew mentions, the reward for those who brag about their works is recognition by others, nothing more. Whereas those who do their good works in silence for Elohim's eyes only are rewarded in the next life.
